Peer Review Process
Peer Review Process
Maqasid Tarbiyah: Journal of Islamic Education and Human Flourishing employs a double-blind peer review process to ensure the academic quality, integrity, and fairness of all published articles. The identities of both authors and reviewers remain confidential throughout the entire process.
Stages of the Review Process
- Initial Editorial Screening. Upon submission, the Editor-in-Chief or a designated section editor conducts a preliminary evaluation of the manuscript to assess its relevance to the journal’s focus and scope, adherence to the author guidelines, language quality, and originality. Manuscripts that do not meet basic requirements may be returned to the author or rejected at this stage.
- Plagiarism Check. Each manuscript is screened using reputable similarity-detection software. Submissions exceeding 20% similarity (excluding references and direct quotations) are returned for revision or rejected.
- Assignment to Reviewers. Manuscripts that pass initial screening are sent to at least two independent reviewers with relevant scholarly expertise. Reviewers are selected from a diverse pool of national and international experts.
- Double-Blind Review. Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on originality, theoretical and methodological rigor, contribution to the field, clarity of argument, ethical compliance, and quality of writing. Reviewers provide a confidential report and a recommendation: accept, minor revisions, major revisions, or reject.
- Editorial Decision. Based on the reviewers’ reports, the section editor and Editor-in-Chief make a final decision. In cases of conflicting reviews, an additional reviewer may be consulted.
- Revision and Resubmission. Authors are required to respond to reviewer comments in a detailed response letter and to indicate revisions clearly in the revised manuscript. Major revisions may undergo a second round of peer review.
- Final Acceptance and Production. Accepted manuscripts proceed to copyediting, typesetting, and proofreading before publication in the next available issue.
Estimated Review Timeline
The standard review process takes approximately 8–12 weeks from submission to first decision, though timelines may vary depending on reviewer availability and manuscript complexity. Authors are notified of the editorial decision at each stage of the process.
Reviewer Confidentiality
All materials submitted to the journal are treated as confidential documents. Reviewers and editors must not disclose any information about a manuscript to anyone other than those involved in the editorial process.
